About Hazrat Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Jehangir Simnani (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anho)

This great Wali-Allah was born in the year 708 Hijri at Simnan country in Persia. His father Hazrat Sultan Sayyad Ibrahim Noor Bakhsh (ra) ruled the region for about 20 years. Apart from being a noble and respected governor, he was also a great scholar, theologian and Sufi. His mother, Bibi Khadijah Begum was also in the lineage of great mystics and saints. She was very pious and is especially renowned for his namaaz-e-Tahajjud regular. Hazrat Makhdoom (RA) was admitted to the Madrassah at the age of 4 years, 4 months and 4 days. And at the age of 5 years, he became Hafiz-e-Quraan with 7 ways to make the Qiraa'aat (reading) in a period of 7 months and 26 days, and he completed his Islamic education at the age of 14 years.

He was proclaimed the 6th King of Simnan and ascended the throne at a very tender age after the wafaat (death) of his father. During his reign he took the help of Hazrat Sheikh Ala-ud-Dowla Simnan (ra) for his spiritual education and Shariah practiced with all devotion and great detail in its ibaadats (prayers) without violating his sunnat and Nafil in each namaz. He was very popular with his constituents. During the same period, he saw in a dream the great wali Ouwaÿss Qarni Hazrat (ra) who taught him the 'Marifat' (step spirituality). Also, the mystical creature, Hazrat Khidr Aleh Salam the initiative to wazîfahs special and he left his throne to devote himself full time to the path of Allah, saying he 's has never experienced neither peace nor personal pleasure to be on a throne. He then took the road to India courtesy of his mother. There, he met Hazrat Makhdoom Jalal-ud-Deen Jahânia Jahangasht Bukhari (ra) and profited enormously from his spirituality during the 3 days spent in his company. This great Wali asked to go to Bengal where his true spiritual guide, Hazrat Sheikh Alaul Haque Waddeen Gunje Nabaat (RA) awaited. En route to his Murshid (spiritual guide), he arrived in Bihar where he was awaited to lead the namaz e janazah of Hazrat Sheikh Sharf-ud-Deen Yahyah Moonîri (ra) according to his will. Hazrat Ashraf (RA) performed the namaz Janaaza and at the same time, according to this will he bore the coat 'Khilafat' of this great Wali as a gift. Arrived in Bengal, he was greeted by his Murshid and others. After the salaam and Musaffa (braces), his Murshid made him eat 4 bites of betel with his own hand and Hazrat Makhdoom (ra) took the bai'at (spiritual commitment). It was filled with spirituality during its 12 years in the company of his Murshid and with his permission, he received the title of "Jahangir”, the dress and' Khilafat '. It is from here that his mission began.

Wissal :
Wissal : Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf Rahmatullahi alaih left this world on the 28th Muharram 808 A.H. Some time before his passing away he had his dargah (shrine) constructed exactly the way he wanted. On the 26th of Muharram he went to visit his dargah and noticed a 'pen' and some paper on the side of the grave. He sat in the grave and wrote two booklets namely 'Basharat ul Murideen' and 'Resal-e-Qabria'.

Construction of grave :

It is interesting and amazing to say that he got his grave constructed in his life time. He laid the foundation stone of his grave and placed in its foundation stone from Mecca brought by Hazrat Rukunuddin Sair (R.A.) within minutes. He asked to make grave with brick and it should be as wide and high that he could say prayer standing Hazrat Jamshed Qualandar was engaged in its construction for twelve years . Hazrat Noorul Ain (R.A.), Hazrat Shaikh Mohammad Durre yatim and Hazrat Shaikh Marauf Addwmwi also participated. He used to visit grave daily. In his last time he passed whole day and night in the grave and wrote Resalae Quabria and Basharatul Moridin. He also predicted that he who would come to his grave, he would get his desire. The date of its construction can be calculated from " Arshe Akbar" 793.

The description of the learned men and spiritual leaders will remain incomplete if we do not describe a few things about Hazrat Sultan Ashraf Jahangir Samnani. And whenever we will discuss his contributions, the description of Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Nooraul Ain will surely be taken into account.

A personality of great stature, Haji Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain was like a son and a grand successor of Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf Samnani R. A. he reached dizzy heights in the training and education of Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf Samnani R. A. The family of the Ashrafia proceeds from his generation. After the death of Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf Samnani R. A, for almost 40 years he kept on lighting the candle of education and direction of his predecessor and popularized his silsila - e - Ashrafia.

The relation of Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf Samnani R. A and Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain is almost identical to the relationship we have seen between Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya and Hazrat Sk. Nasiruddin Mahmood Chirag Delvi or between Makhdoom Jahan Sk. Sharfuddin Ahmed Yahya Muneri and Moulana Muzaffar Balkhi. The way Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir looked upon Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain can be understood by the spiritual and educational identification of his generations which continues even today.

Hazrat Ghaus ul Alam loved Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain immensely. For 68 years Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain lived under his benign fatherly shadow. He was always there for him on tours and served him in no uncertain measure as a follower. It is because of his immense and selfless service that he attained the place of importance in the Ghousia tradition.

Hazrat Shaikh Nizam Yemani R.A. speaks of Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain R. A. "No human being could serve the way Syed Noorul Ain served his master." It is quoted in Lataife Ashrafi. "Service can take you to great spiritual heights. There is no step better to reach this zenith than serving the master."

Hazrat Gaus ul Alam, Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Samnani R.A. has said that whatever greatness and blessings he had received from the learned predecessors, he had transferred all into the pure heart of Syed Noorul Ain and the togetherness which is there in between us is beyond explanation.

The birth of Hazrat Noorul Ain
Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain was perhaps born in 750 AD or 752 AD at Jillan village. He was born in the family of Mahboob - E-Subhani Gaus Shamdani Sekh Abdul Qader Jilliani R.A. and in the house of Hazrat Abdul Ghafoor Hassan Jallani who was married to the cousin sister of Hazrat Makhdoom Ahsraf Jahangir Samnani. This family was extremely respectful and loved in the township of Jallani. The family became more prestigious due to the inmate connection of Gaus Ul Azam. This township was the home of men of letters and spiritual excellence. This earth of the township is also revered due to the fact that it was the birth place of Gaus-Ul-Azam.

Historical appraisal of the son (Farzande manwie)
Hazrat Makhdom Samnani,R.A was preparing for meditation (Zikr)in the khanquah of Pandua. All of a sudden, his peer Shah Allau-Al Haque Ganj Nabat, R.A, came on the scene and asked him what was he doing. He replied "Zikr ke liye kamar kas raha hun" ( preparing for a recitation & prayer) The Sheikh further hinted "Kamar bandh rahe ho to majboot aur muhakkam bandhna darmiyan me koi cheej baki na reh jaye" ( If preparing for recitation and prayer he must not leave any stone unturned.) and to this Makhdoom E Simnani replied I sacrifice all my sensuality. Peer murshid spiritual guide teacher of Hazrat Makhdoom Samnani could sense the danger involved in it. He want into deep meditation and said that hail to all you will have a follower who will be no less than a son.
Hazrat Makhdom Samnani,R.A says in Lataife Ashrafi that "This my son is the issue of my cousin sister who is married to Hassan Jilani. My relation and touches with him cannot be described in words". Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul-Ain got complete training and education in the knowledge of shariat and tarriquat and in the departments of recitation and narrative from Hazrat Makhdoom Samnani R.A. and he made him perfect in all kinds of knowledge. Hazrat Gaus-Ul-Alam left no stone unturned in educating Noorul-Ain.
The life of Noorul Ain was so very similar to the life of Hazrat Makhdoom Samnani. Hazrat Gaus-Ul-Alam devoted all his life to Allah(god) leaving behind his parent, family estate and wealth. Hazrat Noorul Ain too followed suit and followed in the footsteps of Hazrat Makhdoom Samnani and devoted all his life in the ways as suggested by the almighty.
Hazrat Syed Ahsraf Jahangir R.A took great pride in him. He used to say,' as Hazrat Mehboob Elahi Nizamuddin Auliya R.A was proud of his great disciple. In the same fashion I am proud of Noorul Ain. I will celebrate this gift of god on the day of judgement.

Position
He was placed in highest positon of spiritually Hazrat Nizam Yamani writes that once Gaus Ul Alam was present at the Jama Masjid of Damascus. A group of disciplines were also present there Hazrat Abul Makaram Anu al wafa kharzami Sk. Ali Aseeluddin and Shaikh Taqiuddin were also present there. The discussion of spiritually and reality was going on. The name of Hazrat Noorul Ain cropped up in between. He stated that god has blessed me with two special gifts. I have sacrificed my life and my spiritual and real knowledge on son Abdur Razzaque.
Hazrat Gaus Ul Alam in one of his letter which he wrote to Syed Abdur Razzaque has written that it is my earnest prayer that the almighty blesses you with the highest of positions. Hence he became Ashraf sani and his linage Ashrafia spread all over the country and the famous family of saadat - the family of Ashrafiya in India is from his generation.

Marriage
When Syed A. Razzaque Noorul Ain R.A. reached the age of adulthood, Hazrat Makhdoom samnani started thinking of his marriage. He went on in search of a family having lineage of Mohammad(P.B.U.H). He did some research in this regard. In the letters of Ahsrafi it is written that the marriage took place in the house of a Saddat of village Nasirabad. Perhaps that Nasirabad is located near Jaaish and here the marriage was materialised. The wife's name was Bibi Sultana Khatoon whose graveyard is in the South-east vicinity of Makhdoom Ashraf's mausoleum and which is also a place of respect for people.

Sajjadgi-successorship
Whatever knowledge and blessings and articulations Hazrat Makhdoom samnani R.A, achieved from the great walis (friends of the almighty), transferred all of them to Syed Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain and all the gifts, citations and tabarukaat he got from great sufi saints and elders distributed them among his sons and selected hi m ( Noorul Ain) his chief Successor and declared the same among all the followers and disciples and asked them to be loyal to him and accept him as such.

Hazrat Makhdoom samnani R.A. at the end of his illustrious life presented four saintly dresses and named him successor to his tradition of spirituality. He also blessed him with his choicest prayers. Even in the last phase of his life, he did not forget the sons of Hazrat Noorul Ain and blessed them hugely called them individually and prayed for them.

He called the sons of Noorul Ain first to Syed Shamsuddin whom he gave a green colour dress as according to Hazrat the boy was adept in knowledge, but with a very short life he died at the age of 18 years. After that he presented a saintly dress to Syed Hassan and said that Hassan has better reasons to get a great place. Then he presented a saintly dress to Syed Hussain and stated that Hussain is identical to me and great men will be born in his family and will be our successors, and in some manuscript it is written that he unfolded his pashmina from his head and gave it to him. After him Syed Fareed was called and offered him gifts and said the smell of love of god is coming from you O successor of Fareed and finally he called Syed Ahmed and offered him gifts and stated he is as good as his name and he will have great sons.

The children of Syed A. Razzaque too got so much in the company of Hazrat Makhdoom samnani. He also blessed him so much so that he almost gave them permission and made them successors.

Syed A. Razzaque , after this took charge of his sons and made them perfect in the ways of God. Each one of them reached perfect destinations.
All the five sons of Syed A. Razzaque was adequately trained and he offered them saintly dresses and filled them with the knowledge of the material and spiritual world.

Death
After Makhdoom Ashraf Jahangir Samnani R.A. closed his eyes, Hazrat Syed Abdur Razzaque R.A continued to represent in decent tradition on the seat of sainthood of Hazrat Makhdoom Samnani and between 869 and 872 Hijri, he left this world for his heavenly abode. The grave is by the side of Makhdoom Samnani in the east and a place of pilgrimage. He lived for one hundred and twenty years.

Brief Introduction to the family of Ashrafia.
This biographical work attempts to introduce the Ashrafia the descendents of the great Prophet Mohammed S.A.W, which command great respect and reverence in the Indian populace. In the last 700 years this great family has produced many stalwarts of Islamic theology, oratory writing and sainthood. These great propagators of Islam and Islamic culture have contributed invaluably to the ideals of the Islam by the dint of their Islamic practices and their ardent following of the teaching of the great prophet.

This family traces its origin in the India from the advent of Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf Simnani RA and thereafter from his adopted son Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain RA as Hazrat Makhdoom Simnani RA had conqured his sensuality (Nafs) in his quest for spirituality and remained unmarried. Hazrat Noorul Ain was the son of his cousin sister who was married into the family of direct descendents of Gausul Azam Hazrat Mohiuddin Abdul Qadir Jilani RA.
Hazrat Syed makhdoom Simnani Ra loved immensely to his son farzande manwie Hazrat Abdur Razzaque Noorul Ain RA.

Out of love and affection Hazrat Simnani RA once narrated that he prayed to Allah and blessed Hazrat Noorul Ain's descendents up to the 18th generation with the protection of Allah's Angels from the enemies and ill wishes of the family. In another narration Hazrat Makhdoom Simnani RA had once said that he would be ever present as the protector for his descendents in his life and his afterlife. These two narrations manifest the importance and eminence of the Ashrafia family. To further manifest the importance and eminence of the family one has to narrate and clarify the conceptual meaning of successor ship or "Sajjadgi". The process which goes into the anointment of a successor or Sajjada is that amongst the living descendents those who could make spiritual connection to the illuminating spirituality of Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf Simnani RA have been raised to the realm of becoming Gaus, Kutub, Abdal and true devotee of the almighty Allah of their times i.e. Hazrat Noorul Ain RA., Hazrat Syed Hussain Qattal, Syed Shah Jaffar RA, Syed Shah Haji Chiragh Jahan RA, Syed Shah Mahmood RA, Syed Shah Mahamid RA and Syed Shah Abdul Hai RA.

Hazrat Syed Abdul Hai Ashraf RA was born in Baskhari Sharif in Faizabad district in the year 1908. This township has been foundation of eminent personalities of the Ashrafia family. Hazrat was brought up in an atmosphere of learning, philosophy and mysticism. The prevalent conditions of his upbringing has thus imbibed in him and made him a true wali e kamil. His father Hazrat Syed Shah Wajihuddin Ashraf RA was an eminent Hakim, Theologist and poet of his time and these salient qualities were also imbibed into Hazrat Shah Abdul Hai RA under his guidance, these qualities made him a name to reckon with in these fields.

Hazrat Shah Abdul Hai Ashraf RA ascended to the office of Sajjada on the demise of his father Hazrat Shah Wajihuddin Ashraf RA in the year 1937. Though qualities of piety were present in him since his childhood, it transcended to a higher level after his anointment as Sajjada Nashin.

The discharge of his duties and administration during his 31 years as sajjada are an example to emulate for his successors. On 26th of October 1968 at Mohalla Kachchi Bagh in Benaras Hazrat Syed Abdul Hai Ashraf RA breathed his last. His body was brought to Baskhari and was buried in the graveyard of Sajjada Nashin in front of the Shrine of Hazrat Makhdoom Ashraf RA. He left six sons and two daughters behind him namely

1) Hazrat Moulana Syed Shah Jafaruddin Ashraf RA
2) Hazrat Moulana Alhaj Syed Shah Fakharuddin Ashraf - the present sajjada nashin,
3) Hazrat Syed Shah Badiuddin Ashraf M A ( Alig)
4) Hazrat Syed Shah Alhaj Wahajuddin Ashraf MA (Alig)
5) Hazrat Syed Shah Mazharuddin Ashraf MA (Alig) and
6) Hazrat Syed Shah Merajuddin Ashraf MA (Alig)

All these respectable persons are having the qualities of their father and continue the legacy. After the demise of Hazrat Syed Shah Abdul Hai Ashraf RA his eldest son Hazrat Moulana Syed Shah Jafaruddin Ashraf @ babu mian became the Sajjada & Motwalli of Dargah Makhdoom Ashraf RA. After Hazrat Moulana Syed Shah Mohammed Makki Ashraf RA he was the youngest ever person to adore the office of Sajjadgi. He breathed his last at the age of 40 years on the 8th of June 1989 at the district hospital of Faizabad.

After his primary education at home, he joined Aligarh Mantu Circle now known as Tahir Safiuddin High School for further education. He gave up his education on hearing of his father's illness and returned to Baskhari. Despite the weight and responsibilities of being the eldest he continued his education at Tanda Mazharul Haque. On the demise of his father he ascended the office of sajjada and also continued his studies in the aspect of tradition and intellect and completed his education. Despite his high status and overbearing personality he was humble and down to earth person. He also possessed great spiritual powers and was a manifestation of his late father's great qualities.

The responsibilities of sajjadgi passed on to Hazrat Moulana Fakhruddin Ashraf after the demise of his elder brother Hazrat Moulana Syed Shah Jafaruddin Ashraf RA.
